TAINPA

Advanced Phased Array Inspection Technology

The purpose of TAINPA is the detection of non-detectable discontinuities with surface NDT in carbon steel SOCKET welds by applying Phased Array Ultrasonics.

Due to the reduced thickness of these welds and their geometric configuration, they are only inspected using surface Non Destructive Testing (NDT), and there may be internal defects that are not detected.

DEVELOPMENT

During the exploration, a position encoder is used to generate a plain representation of the inspected area, showing a color map with the detected discontinuities. The red color indicates great amplitude of the discontinuity (Reference Level = orange color).

This map is included in the inspection reports to have a plain view of the state of each weld.
